On the contrary…

Agora, vamos estudar como responder a alguém que está mentindo, ou se enganando sobre alguma situação. Além de aprender sobre as questions tags, formação muito importante no inglês.

1 . Observe as expressões abaixo e anote as que você pode usar para dizer que alguém está errado ou não está dizendo a verdade.

1 That’s not the case.

2 I hardly think so.

3 That’s not true.

4 You must be mistaken.

5 I’ll go along with that.

6 You’re wrong.

7 On the contrary…

8 It isn’t so.

9 That can’t be right.

2 . Você ouvirá seis pessoas usando as expressões abaixo. Diga onde está a ênfase na pronúncia de cada frase.

Speaker 1 (… it’s not true.)

Speaker 2 (I hardly think so …)

Speaker 3 (That can’t be right …)

Speaker 4 (… it isn’t like that …)

Speaker 5 (You must be mistaken …)

Speaker 6 (You’re wrong …)

3 . Leia as frases abaixo. Relacione-as com as frases 1–6 do exercício 2 para formar diálogos.

a) I think you’d make a really good one.

b) You’d like to be a millionaire, wouldn’t you?

c) We think you stole some money last night.

d) He wants to become an actor, doesn’t he?

e) Your family will be really sad when you’ve gone, won’t they?

f) Sorry, sir, but you gave me a ten pound note, I’m sure.

Grammar: Question tags

Lembre-se: para formar uma question tag, copie o verbo auxiliar da oração principal, mas altere-o para a negativa se ele estiver na afirmativa e vice-versa, conforme é mostrado nos exemplos abaixo.
She can’t be right, can she?
You won’t go without me, will you?
It would be funny, wouldn’t it?
It’ll be time to go soon, won’t it? (Won’t é a forma reduzida de will not.)
